Yelp Filter – If you notice reviews disappearing from your site, it’s likely they’ve been caught by the Yelp Filter. This is an algorithm designed to remove fake or low-quality reviews, and it’s said to filter about 25 percent of all reviews. There are two primary goals of the filter:
- Reviews are from real customers
- Reviews are interesting and add value to the community
The filter uses several complex factors in this process, and updates daily. Approved reviews are listed in the “Recommended” section, which is easier to view on the page, while non-approved reviews are posted in the “not currently recommended” link, which is at the bottom of pages and tougher to find.
Why is my review not showing up on Yelp?
If you aren’t able to find your review, there are a few possible explanations:
Your review may not currently be recommended Your review may still be saved as a draft You may still need to confirm your email address
If you see your review on your profile but don’t see it on the business page, it is not currently being recommended. However, users can still find it at the bottom of the Yelp page or when viewing your profile. Reviews are only removed if they are found to be in violation of our Content Guidelines or Terms of Service, or if your account has been closed all together.
Can companies delete bad reviews?
Is it legal to remove bad reviews? – It is legal to remove bad reviews (or get them removed) as long as you’re not violating the Consumer Review Fairness Act, This act allows businesses to prohibit or remove the following types of reviews:
- contains sensitive or private information; or
- is defamatory, harassing, abusive, vulgar, sexually explicit, or inappropriate; or
- is unrelated to the company’s goods or services; or is otherwise inappropriate.
Simply put, removing genuine negative reviews is not permissible, and if you somehow manage to do that, it will be illegal. Also, removing all bad reviews is unethical and somewhat contradicts the purpose of having a page for business feedback. Therefore, you can only remove negative reviews that violate a platform’s terms of service and content guidelines.

Why can’t I see my reviews on my business page?
How to fix missing Facebook reviews – If you do not see reviews because your Facebook reviews are off, you can fix the issue in just a few minutes. Facebook gives businesses the option to turn their reviews off, which will hide your existing reviews and prevent followers from being able to leave new reviews.
This can be helpful if you’re experiencing problems with spam or fake reviews, or if you’ll be away from your business temporarily and won’t have time to monitor reviews. When you turn your reviews off, Facebook will save your existing reviews. You can enable reviews in the future, and your old reviews will be visible again.
To turn your business reviews on:
Log into your Facebook account and go to your business Facebook page. Under your “Manage Page” section, click on the “Settings” button. You will see a menu on the left-hand side of the page and should click on the “Templates and Tabs” section. Look for “Reviews” and toggle the option to “On.”
Your reviews tab will now be visible, and customers will be able to leave new reviews and see the previous page reviews.

They’re created by your customers and they inform potential leads how well your product or service performs compared to your marketing messaging. Leads who are interested in your brand can trust this feedback as an unbiased guide for whether to do business with your company.
Here’s the problem. Not all customer reviews are written by customers. Some people write fake reviews as a way to promote or slander a brand. This can be a real problem for brands that rely on third-party review sites, like Google Maps, to attract new customers. On Google, anyone can write a fake review that goes public instantly upon submission. And since Google is a third-party site, businesses can’t just take the review down.
Does Google remove reviews after a certain time?
Do Google Reviews Expire? – The upfront answer is that Google reviews do not expire, so any customer reviews you receive will remain posted online (unless you’re able to get them removed – more on this below). On any Google Business Profile found on Google, clicking on “Google reviews” or “View all Google Reviews” pulls up that business’s reviews, which can be continuously scrolled.
- So all Google reviews for a business can be viewed publicly – no matter how old.
- Also, a business’s review listing on Google is automatically filtered by the “Most relevant” (but you can change the sort order by “Newest”, “Oldest”, etc).
- Google has not stated how relevancy is determined, but studies have found that date, length, locality, product/service specifics, and keywords may be deciding factors, as opposed to review likes, business owner replies, or whether the review is positive or negative.
So overall, customer reviews stay posted and are visible for all customers to see. When viewed, Google reviews are filtered by the “Most relevant”, but positive and negative feedback are not exclusive factors that determine relevance.
